about

This album was conceptualized, written, recorded and mastered between December 2020 and March 2021.

Jórvík had been founded as the Roman legionary fortress of Eboracum and was revived as the Anglo-Saxon trading port of Eoforwic. Jórvík was first captured in 866 by Ivar the Boneless, leading a large army of Scandinavian warriors, called the Great Heathen Army. They landed in East Anglia and made their way North. The historical invasion of Northumbria in 866 occurred in retaliation for Ragnarr's execution. According to Ragnarssona þáttr, King Ælla, captured the legendary Vikingr leader, Ragnarr Loðbrók and put him to death in a pit of snakes. Norse sources claim that Ragnarr's sons tortured Ælla to death by the method of the blood eagle.
